Tutor: Wendy Leach Location: Mangawhai Art Workspace, 45 Moir St, Mangawhai FUN WITH FAUVISM. This topic grew out of an idea I had when I was teaching my oil pastel course. The class was so successful I am now offering it as a one day workshop. Fauvism is a very exciting and colorful art movement from 1904 - 1910. In 1905 when Henri Matisse entered his painting in the Paris Salon d'automne exhibition, it received such a horrified reaction that Matisse and his artist friends were likened to les fauves, ‘Wild Beasts’. The name stuck and Fauvism was born. In this workshop each of you will reproduce your own version of a famous Fauvist painting, working from a copy of your chosen original painting (image provided). This is a fun, ‘no pressure’ workshop to get you working vigorously in your chosen medium.
